February is American Heart Month

Happy Monday everyone! After a weekend in Colorado with my girlfriends and then getting delayed flying home because of get this – a broken toilet on the plane – I am feeling like this cat today:

Or maybe, like this one….

Anyways, on to the point of this post. February is American Heart Month so I wanted to share some information with you about heart diseases from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. These conditions are also leading causes of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities. Cardiovascular disease is also very expensive—together heart disease and stroke hospitalizations in 2010 cost the nation more than $444 billion in health care expenses and lost productivity. However, we can fight back against heart disease and stroke. CDC and other parts of the US government have launched Million Hearts™, to prevent the nation’s leading killers and empowering everyone to make heart-healthy choices.”

And check back with my later this week because I have an early Valentine’s Day present to giveaway to one of my fabulous readers. I’ll give you a hint…It involves chocolate! 🙂

How was your weekend? Are you feeling like either of these cats today?

Looking forward to your chocolate giveaway :-). Funny thing you mention cats, as we have adopted a stray that has been living in our backyard now for a couple of months (I’m allergic so she can come in). I always find her lazing around the back yard, so, yes I can relate! ps-was reading your 2012 goal update-this lack of snow thing out west has me really bummed-my family and I were supposed to head to Mammoth a couple of weekends ago, but we skipped since there wasn’t much snow. We’re hoping to go in a couple of weeks, but only if they get more snow, so do a snow dance for us!!

This year has been a sorry ski season for most places in the US. Such a bummer. 😦 Skiing is hands down my most favorite hobby so I will most certainly do a snow dance for you!!

You are right the symptoms tend to be different for heart attacks in men and women. Because of this, women less often seek treatment for myocardial infarctions and as a result are more likely to die from a heart attack than men are.
