Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Tanya, a Registered Dietitian (RD), PhD Student, exercise lover (sometimes its a love affair with running, other times with the weight room as I struggle to find a perfect balance between the two), skier, and just all around outdoor enthusiast (hiking, camping, rock climbing, mtn biking, whatever, bring it on)!

I grew up on a lake in Massachusetts and spent my time playing soccer, riding horses, and skiing all around New England. It was pretty great! When I graduated highschool I threw caution to the wind and moved out to Wyoming for college. I played Division I soccer there, go Cowgirls, and explored the great outdoors as much as possible. I LOVED living there. I did my Dietetic Internship in Houston, Texas – and let’s just say the hot, humid, city life is not for me! Now I am in Virginia and enjoying exploring here too.

Like most of you, I lead a very busy life (research, teaching, coursework, professional service, outreach, etc.) which can make it difficult to find the time to exercise and eat as healthy as I would like. Therefore, I have created this blog with you in mind. My posts will be centered around simple, easy ways to eat nutritious meals and increase physical activity during even the most hectic of days. I will also provide information about the latest nutrition and exercise-based research; motivational tips to keep you active; food and product reviews; longer articles clearing up some confusing information we often come across in our attempts to lead a healthier life; and tidbits about my life as a 20-something graduate student aiming to keep my sanity and stay fit!

I hope you enjoy the blog and please leave some comments on posts or contact me at tanya@dinedashdeadlift.com with any questions or concerns.

Hi there! Great Blog. I think we have so much in common! I am seeking a PhD as well, hoping to start Fall 2012. I have the MS in Nutrition and I’m teaching a course now, working full time overseeing nutrition education programs and blogging.. oh and training for my 2nd half marathon!
